Why is Emotion Regulation Important?
Emotion regulation means helping kids notice, understand, and manage their feelings so they can handle life’s ups and downs in healthy ways. Research shows that when children build these skills, it lowers their risk for mental health problems—especially for the teen years when mental health risks increase.

iThrive Kids teaches emotion regulation and other skills that serve as protective factors, including: healthy parent-child communication skills, conflict resolution skills, metacognitive strategies (for example, positive self-talk), and healthy routines.

What Can My Child and I Expect During the Program?
iThrive Kids includes two components:

1.  Weekly Children’s Group - In Office
Your child will participate in a small group (led by Dr. Altemeier) that meets once a week for 90 minutes. Groups are helpful to normalize children's experiences and allow for more fun while learning.

2.  Individualized Parent Coaching - Online
Parents participate in weekly, individualized coaching via Zoom at a mutually agreed-upon time during school hours. These sessions provide psychoeducation and strategies that align with what their child is learning. Parents are practicing their skills at home while also supporting their child in completing Home Challenges. The result is a synergistic approach designed to make maximum progress in a relatively short period of time.
